Memorial gifts for Jim Dein may be donated to The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, a bicycle safety awareness organization, with a note that it is in memory of Jim Dein. The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition On Thursday, February 19, 2004, Jim Dein and his friend Ted Aberg were bicycling on Highway 9 near Monte Sierrino in the Santa Cruz mountains, when they were both rear-ended by a van. They were taken to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (751 S. Bascom Ave). Mr. Dein appears to have been DOA but they did attempt to revive him. Mr. Aberg was still in a coma 24 hours later. Local news programs covered the accident later that day. Todd Whitesel is working to obtain a recording of the Channel 5 report. Memorial services were held Sunday, February 29th at 12:30 p.m. First United Methodist Church, 625 Hamilton, Palo Alto (at the corner of Hamilton and Webster). Jim's former co-workers from Wind River held a wake on Friday, March 5th, at 6 p.m. at the Pasta Pelican in Alameda, upstairs. Mercury news articles: |
